Chocolate Bar Cake

There are just some things that I can not forget from childhood: spankings, slip-n-slides, lemonade stands, piano playing, and at the top of the list... CHOCOLATE BAR CAKE. It just sounds magical, and especially to a sweet-loving kid such as myself. I remember every time we made this cake because we always bought the chocolate from Red Food on Kingston Pike and that meant I would get free samples! There's nothing like Mom's Chocolate Bar Cake. I can't remember if this won Knoxville's Chocolate Fest but something from the bakery did! How can you go wrong with HERSHEY'S? This special lady went all the way to Hendersonville ( thanks to Amy's custom cake order). Enjoy, bake it, or I would be glad to make you one. OH YES... nuttin' better than butter milk on sale! And, the leftover milk makes divine biscuits, pancakes, and bellies!  the usual. poor vanilla didn't make it in the picture YES, you must buy the canned kind. the plastic affects ...

Recent Eats

Florida has inspired me to eat a little cleaner, try new recipes, and share old recipes with new friends. After all, eating is so much more enjoyable when you have other people around the table with you to share life with. To start, I took a little trip to Aldi and found a great sale on squash! I usually cook squash on the skillet with the usual italian seasonings such as olive oil, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, maybe some cheese, tomatoes, or breadcrumbs. However, I had more squash than I knew what to do with! I enjoy making squash casseroles but that defeated the purpose of trying to eat a healthy side dish real quick.  So, I remembered a recipe I saw in a magazine for a Summer Squash and Ricotta Galette ( recipe here ). It's similar to a quiche but with less egg. My sweet mother-in-law was in town too and I knew she would help me eat this! It was so tasty and good for you! You should try it the next time you find your refrigerator with an overload of squash!  ...

Still Baking Strong

YUM! Sorry for posting such a tempting picture! Some people have been asking to see some more recent pictures of baking sooo... I'd be silly to not listen to my dear readers! Last week I had the chance to make this scrumptious chocolate bar cake again for a frequent customer! CLICK HERE for recipe from one of my previous blog posts.  I also had the chance to make some more chocolate covered strawberries as we celebrated boss day at work for Dr. Cohen. I am so grateful to work with such an amazing staff. It's amazing to be able to see my coworkers as a family, we all care for each other! BLESSED. I found out through the grapevine that his favorite cake was german chocolate so, I had to accept the challenge! If you've ever made a german chocolate cake then you know how time consuming it could be! However, all the hard work was absolutely worth it. I used some coffee to make it even richer...it was amazing!  Don't you want to work with us??? We're looking for an ort...

Twelve Months With LK

Laurie Kate! Our sweet little baby girl is not a baby anymore! Back on 2-9-16, you turned ONE! Your little personality is just shining through more every day. You always want to be where we are. You don't care much for toys, you want to socialize. You're always talking on an object like it's a phone, pointing to show me something, or coming up to us for a hug. You eat anything we put in front of you and have become so independent with no more bottles or pacis! You're a serious sleeper like your brother...7-7. Sometimes when you're sick, you just don't want to be put down and you put up a good fight! However, you're getting stronger around your brother... he doesn't like when you try to grab his toys! I think you two are getting along better each day.  You spent some quality time with Grandaddy, said goodbye to some special friends that moved to Indianapolis, you've traveled to North Carolina and technically South Carolina this month to celebra...
